Frequently Asked Questions
-
Who can submit a request for assistance?
We do not accept requests from the general public. Instead, we have established a network of teachers, counselors, social and religious workers, and others who, when they identify a child with a specific need, send us the request.

Email us at info@katieskids14.org.

-
How much can I request?
Our average grant per child/family is approximately $150.

Can I request assistance for ANY child?
We provide direct, targeted assistance to a child in need that is in grades K – 12. Katie's Kids does not provide assistance to preschool aged children.

-
How many children can I make a request for?
There is no limit but we do not provide assistance for groups, such as an entire girl’s softball team or a Boy Scout troop. Request for assistance for each child requires a separate request form, unless siblings are involved. In that case, a family request may be made on a single request form.

What kinds of things does Katie's Kids pay for?

Katie's Kids normally does not pay for food or transportation. We do not pay for any medical care, legal fees, housing, or gasoline. These are the types of things that many other non-profit organizations will pay for.

How does Katie's Kids provide assistance?
For more information, see “Our Process" Generally, however, we provide either a gift card or a check. The requestor will list the item(s) needed, and where it can be purchased (e.g., Walmart, Target, Dick’s Sporting Goods). We then send the gift card electronically to the requestor. The requestor then gives the gift card to the parent or guardian so that they can shop with the child to get the needed item. This is all done anonymously so that the child does not know they are receiving charity. Sending a gift card by email allows for a rapid response to the requestor, sometimes within 24 hours!
If the item cannot be purchased at a store (e.g., prom ticket, yearbook, field trip dues), Katie’s Kids will send a check to the requestor made out to the entity that provides the item (e.g., Student Prom Committee, Yearbook Club, High School Science Club).

-
How long does it take for Katie’s Kids to respond to a request?
Our average response time is within 48 hours.
-
Is a request ever denied?
Since we are new, we are hoping that this does not happen. We will work with our network of professionals in order to make sure we have submissions that are within our scope of intended guidelines. We are making many connections with other non-profits that possibly we can direct "asks" that we cannot meet.

Can I make a donation targeted to a specific geographical region, school or child?
Maybe... Katie's Kids, during our early years, will be focusing solely on Stark County, OH with special consideration for two scholarships that have been set-up at North Canton Hoover High School and Gannon University. However, Katie's Kids has a special relationship with Alice's Kids that can target more of a national footprint. See "Special Thanks" section under About Us Tab. We can certainly work with Alice's Kids as needed.

Katie’s Kids is just starting out and has a very small organization. Besides the Board of Directors, there are no full or part-time employees. However, stay close as we will have opportunities in the future. For right now you can help by spreading the word about our intention and mission that we are striving to accomplish.
